Logan County, Ohio. In the early days, Logan County was a favorite jaunt of the Shawnee Empire. The Shawnee capital was Wapatomica, located about two miles from present day Zanesfield. It was in Wapatomica, that several of their captives were made to run the gauntlet.
Logan County is located at the highest point in Ohio and has a very diverse topographical layout; flat in the north, sandy in the west, and rolling hills in the east and south. This diversity made Logan County a very desirable place to settle for many people in the past and still today.

Bellefontaine is not only the highest point in Ohio at 1550 feet above sea level, but holds the world record for the shortest street, McKinley Street and also claims that Court Street is the first concrete street.
Famous residents of Logan County include Dr. Earl Sloan, founder of Dr. Sloan's Liniment; the Mills Brothers, a big band era singing group; Edward D. Jones, Wall Street Financial Broker; Reverend Norman Vincent Peale, Christian author; and George W. Bartholemew, creator of Portland Cement.
