Glenford, Ohio. Glenford is home to the internationally known “Stone Fort”. This wonder is the most famous of the Mounds created by the magnificent mound building Indians.

The Stone Fort gets its name because it is constructed entirely of stone, and occupies an area of 27 acres. The rampart of this wondrous structure is over 6,000 feet. In the center of the stone fort is a 100 foot stone mound. This mound is 100 feet in diameter. It is also 12 feet high.

This isn’t the only mound in Glenford. There are over 100 in Perry County alone! Near by is the Wilson Mound, and east of Glenford is the Roberts Mound. The Roberts Mound is amazingly tall at 27 feet high and it is 120 feet in diameter.

South of Glenford you will find a circle that is 650 feet in circumference, 31 feet wide and 4 feet high. It is an amazing site, because, within is a well-defined bird with outspread wings. The bird is 48 feet long. One wing alone is 111 feet and the other 122 feet wide!

Glenford is worth visiting if only for the mounds. Living in an area so rich in history, with its gently rolling hills, an hour or less from the big city, what more can you ask for?

Passengers also were able to ride on the train from place to place so Glenford got more visitors and residents.

It was in 1870 that land was purchased for a general store, and a post office. The village now had 800 residents and it was then that Glenford was incorporated.

Today Glenford has about 3,000 residents. It is home to a recreation center with world renowned archery, and one of the largest climbing walls in Ohio. The center also has a computer lab, and several intramural sports.

Glenford also has three parks. South Park hosts softball programs for youth and peewee baseball. The park has a playground to play on.

Village Park boasts an Olympic sized pool, tennis courts, baseball fields, a playground and the pond where you are sure to find for a variety of ducks, geese and fish.

Reed Station Park was newly created in the center of town. Named after the founder, Jacob Reed, you are sure to find a bit of history in the land as you spend a relaxing day in the park.
