German Village, Ohio. This historic village, located in Columbus is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the state of Ohio. In fact, it dates back to 1796, when the U.S. was assigning tracts of land to people they felt they owed a debt to. Eventually 328 acres of the 48 mile stretch that was the original purchased land, from the Scioto river outward, became what is known as German Village.

German Village got its name from the original purchaser of the 328 acres, a Scottish man whom sold the area away to German settlers. Today, German Village only makes up 228 acres, but it is indeed a place where history and newfound adventure have a chance to meet.

Columbus' population, in the 1800's was 1/3 German, and German Village reflected the vibrancy and history of Germans who brought their culture to a new world.

Today you have access to downtown, the highways that surround Columbus, the Art Museum, several Universities and Colleges, shopping facilities and restaurants.

German Village residents still care about the original settlers and work to preserve the history of the Village. Some of the oldest buildings and homes still exist in German Village, making it a great place to teach your children about history and let them experience and view older architectural styles.
