Crooksville, Ohio. Crooksville, Ohio has been quite important since Perry County was settled. It is located within an hour from three large cities, Zanesville, Lancaster, and the capital, Columbus making it a manageable commute for professionals and families whom have someone who works in the city.

Crooksville was discovered between 1820 and 1825 by Jacob Reed whom had set out west, as many did in those days, to make his fortune. His wife, Lydia, and he found Crooksville instead. The area was covered in trees and Jacob bought the land, in a deed that was signed and sealed by James Monroe himself.

When Jacob said he wanted to make his fortune he did! The wooded area provided the trees for a lumber mill and farm. Eventually he owned 400 acres. When the railroad came, Jacob made his own station, since timber was more easily shipped by train.

Passengers also were able to ride on the train from place to place so Crooksville got more visitors and residents.

It was in 1870 that land was purchased for a general store, and a post office. The village now had 800 residents and it was then that Crooksville was incorporated.

Today Crooksville has about 3,000 residents. It is home to a recreation center with world renowned archery, and one of the largest climbing walls in Ohio. The center also has a computer lab, and several intramural sports.

Crooksville also has three parks. South Park hosts softball programs for youth and peewee baseball. The park has a playground to play on.

Village Park boasts an Olympic sized pool, tennis courts, baseball fields, a playground and the pond where you are sure to find for a variety of ducks, geese and fish.

Reed Station Park was newly created in the center of town. Named after the founder, Jacob Reed, you are sure to find a bit of history in the land as you spend a relaxing day in the park.
